12.31.10
A black vulture rides
down the north wind of a bright
New Year’s Eve cold front.
12.29.10
After dark on a wet evening,
two tired missionaries stop
so they can pet my dogs.
Rain pops on black umbrellas.
12.28.10
Doves crowd the feeder,
huddled gray against the drizzle.
A white wing flashes.
12.26.10
Late December dark—
the kinglet returns to find
the feeder still there.
12.08.10
Sunset glow–
orange, behind houses.
The dogs crunch
through the fallen leaves
looking for… what?

12.07.10
My feet ache with cold.
I bundle up and go inside,
the A/C set for summer.
12.06.10
A late grasshopper,
brown like old bark, leaps away
from my winter shadow.
12.02.10
My dry knuckles crack,
bleeding in the morning cold.
The dogs tug their leashes.
12.01.10
Vapor trails
tic-tac-toe the sky.
Nothing moves.
